I have a new rant. It started a few weeks ago at a gas station. I literally just pulled in behind another car to get gas. The woman stopped in the middle of the driveway so I couldn't get around her at all. She got out of her car and started yelling at me like I had done something wrong. I was so shocked. All I wanted was some stinkin' gas! I just let her yell. I figured she needed to blow off some steam, plus I didn't want to get into an argument for a stupid reason. She drove off, but it left me with a depressing thought: people are so mean to each other.
Ever since then, I've seen it everywhere. Really, people, what do you think you're going to gain by rolling your eyes or being rude? NOTHING!!! I've stopped being offended when people are rude to me. It might be indifference, but I feel like it's my way of letting them act like a fool without it affecting me. I know life hurts and we're full of sin and people are acting out of their sinful nature, but it doesn't solve anything.
So, here's a semi-new concept that I was convicted of last year: love them. Um, yea, it sucks. Especially when those people have called you names you never knew existed, but it's such a better alternative. Why stoop to abusive behavior when we're called to something greater? We are capable of loving strangers- and mean ones at that- because Jesus did the exact same thing. Don't you think that while he was carrying the cross on his shredded back that he looked at people as he passed by and loved them? I do. And I would rather live a life by Jesus' example than try to retaliate (even if it's just with thoughts).
